Novel suggestions, please

by blayka @ 24/04/2008 - 20:27:42

What have you enjoyed reading lately? I am picking up my habit of reading in bed (instead of reading course materials, hehehehehe) and I'm looking for suggestions.

Nothing too profound, though - I am a shallow girl. Postmodern novels where you don't know who's going and who's coming demand more of me than I am willing to give. So Marques and such are about as deep as I am happy to travel :)

The Life That I Have

The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours

The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.

A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.

Ah! A war story. Haven't read it (mind you, there's stil LOADS I haven't read) and it sounds interesting. I'll see if I can get it in the library. If not, I'll invest :)

Oh right THAT sort of "novel suggestions"

I was going to say have you ever tried doing it in a hammock when covered in baby oil, but you want books...

I will get my coat and leave.

ahem.

Hey, hey, don't hold back! I'll take whatever you can give ;)

That suggestion needs a Don't Try This At Home warning. I see tangled broken bodies.

I'd suggest Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. Possibly the funniest english novel of all time and the last chapter is IT in terms of romance. I will marry Charles if it's the last thing I do with my burning embers!!!

Sounds extremely promising!

It's the best book. Then Wuthering Heights and Dracula also exist beyond excellent and touching on some sublime level of literary nirvana.

Well, if it's anything like Wouthering Heights, I'm reading this one first!

I'm still on my anything-by-Michel-Faber trip.

Michel is on the list! I'll let you know which one I tackle first.

I've been reading one of Michael Crichton's techno-thrillers, State of Fear.

I like Michael Crichton! I've read some of his novels, but I don't think I've read this one.

It is one of his more recent... and more controversial
